Banjarmasin – The English Language Education Study Program (PS) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held academic activities in the form of a Public Lecture which was held for two days on Thursday, September 5, 2024 in Hasan Bondan Hall starting at 15.00 WITA and Saturday, September 7, 2024 in the Smartclass Room MBKM starting at 09.00 WITA. This public lecture presented 2 speakers from 2 different countries. They are Willy A. Renandya from National Institute of Education, Singapore and Mazura Mastura binti Muhammad from University of Education Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia. The activity was attended by lecturers and around 100 students of PS PBI FKIP ULM.
According to Emma Rosana Febriyanti, the successive public lectures were an effort to deepen the material on two major themes in learning at PS PBI, namely Critical Thinking and Gender Representation in Language Text Book and Assessment. “Hopefully, with this activity, students can better understand these two fields of study, so that in the future they will have an interest in conducting research and even service related to this matter,” she said.
On Thursday, September 5, 2024, Willy A. Renandya had the opportunity to speak about Critical Thinking. he talked a lot about how the relationship between critical thinking and the reading process. Meanwhile, Mazura Mastura bint Muhammad who gave a public lecture on Saturday, September 7, 2024 talked specifically about how women are represented in English textbooks and practice questions by analyzing the language corpus in the text.
