Banjarmasin – In order to commemorate World Dance Day 2024, the Performing Arts Education Study Program (PSP) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a series of commemorations entitled World Dance Day ULM Baigal 2024 with the theme Merdeka belajar, Merdeka Menari. This activity consists of a Dance Creation Workshop (Training) on May 8 and an Appreciation Stage Performance on May 9.
The Dance Creation Training was held in Hasan Bondan Hall starting at 09.00 WITA and presented two speakers, Mila Rosinta Totoatmojo, dance choreographer and founder of Mila Art Dance School, and Firhansyah, South Kalimantan dance artist. In this training, Firhansyah talked about the basic movements of Banjar dance, while Mila Rosinta talked about creating dance works from cultural roots.
Meanwhile, at the 2024 Dance Appreciation Stage performance, a number of performers attended and participated in this event including dance performances from SDN Kebun Bunga 5 Banjarmasin, SDN Sungai Miai 10 Banjarmasin, SMPN 1 Banjarmasin for traditional dance performances; Wiramartas dance group, PSP 23, and PSP 22 for modern dance group performers; Horcoles Saputra from PS Sociology Education for modern dance solo performers; and Fitrian Nurrahman for solo lyrical dance performers. The Appreciation Stage was held at the Bauntung Stage open space of FKIP ULM starting at 09.00 WITA.
According to PSP Coordinator, Muhammad Budi Zakia Sani, the background of the World Dance Day commemoration activity is to appreciate dance as an important form of cultural expression and appreciate the variety of regional dance movements. “The goal is to maintain the basic movements typical of South Kalimantan, provide understanding, appreciation, and participation in art, especially dance, as well as foster a sense of love for local art and continue to preserve and develop it,” he said.
