Banjarmasin – The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education (JPMIPA), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) collaborates with various international and national organizations, including Pueblo Science from Canada, Physical Society of Indonesia (PSI), Indonesian Chemistry Association (HKI), Indonesian Science Educators Association (PPII), Indonesian Mathematics Association, Indonesian Biology Educators and Researchers Association (HPPBI), Association of Higher Education Informatics and Computing (APTIKOM), and Highly Functioning Education Consulting Services (HAFECS) from Indonesia organized The 3rd International Conference on Mathematics, Science, and Computer Education (ICMSEdu) on Friday-Saturday, 18-19/10, at the Aria Barito Hotel starting at 08.00 WITA. The international conference with the theme Harmonizing STEAM Education for Sustainable Development Goals was opened by ULM’s Vice Chancellor for Cooperation, Public Relations, and Information Systems, Yusuf Azis, and attended by a number of invited guests including the Dean of FKIP ULM, Sunarno Basuki and Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Deasy Arisanty. The participants who took part in this activity amounted to around 420 people.
In his speech, Yusuf Azis, who was also the keynote speaker at the conference, expressed his appreciation for this activity. “We, from the university, are very supportive of the international conference organized by PMIPA FKIP. Through this conference, we can exchange experiences and information. Hopefully this activity can raise the name of ULM in the international arena. We want to make ULM a Competitive and Superior University in the field of wetlands, and become a World Class University,” he said. Meanwhile, Dean of FKIP ULM, Sunarno Basuki also expressed his excitement over the organization of this activity. hopes that this international conference can be a place for academics, teacher educators, researchers, teachers, and students from primary, secondary, and higher education from all corners of the world to share findings, expertise, and experiences in the fields of Mathematics, Science, and Computer Education to contribute to developing Indonesian education.
According to Dewi Dewantara, Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee, the selection of the STEAM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) theme is proof of JPMIPA’s consistency in promoting STEAM-based learning. Previously, there have been a number of academic and non-academic activities such as public lectures, or training held by study programs within JPMIPA with the theme of STEM/STEAM. “STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) has become a trend in the field of MIPA education because of its integrative approach and relevance to the times. By including the element of “Art”, STEAM motivates to innovate and think critically and collaborate, making learning more interesting and relevant to everyday life,” he explained.
This conference presented a number of speakers from various countries who attended offline and online. They are Peter Grootenboe, Professor of Griffith University, Australia; Mayrose Ramos Salvador from Pueblo Science, Canada; Park Joon Hyeong from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Siti Zubaidah, Professor of State University of Malang; Nor Farah Wahidah binti Abdul Rahman from University Teknologi Malaysia; Robby Zidny from Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University; and Sutarto Hadi, Professor of Lambung Mangkurat University. Invited speakers included Danang Bagus Yudistira from HAFECS, Arif Sholahuddin, Amalia Rezeki, Harja Santana Purba, Sri Hartini, and Syahmani from Universitas Lambung Mangkurat; Meryansumayeka from Universitas Sriwijaya, and Jaka Fajar Fatriansyah from Universitas Indonesia.
In the paper presentation session, there were 89 papers presented by a total of 247 presenters from various universities throughout Indonesia. The authors came from various universities, including Lambung Mangkurat University, Mulawarman University, Syiah Kuala University, Sunan Ampel State Islamic University, Surabaya Standardization and Industrial Service Agency (BSPJI Surabaya), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Center for Quality Control and Supervision of Marine and Fishery Products Surabaya, State University of Malang, Antasari Banjarmasin State Islamic University, Yokyakarta State University, Palangkaraya University, Wahidiyah University, Hasanuddin University, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Borneo Tarakan University, Banjarmasin State Polytechnic, PGRI Kalimantan University, University of Indonesia, University of Serang Raya, Banten, Sriwijaya University, Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University, Sebelas Maret University, Muhammadiyah Surakarta University, KH University. A. Wahab Hasbullah, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo, Universitas Negeri Makasar, Universitas Islam Darul Ulum, Universitas PGRI Semarang, Universitas Khairun, Universitas Teknologi Malaysia, Universitas Terbuka, HAFECS Research and Publication, Universitas Djuanda, and other institutions.
