Banjarmasin – As part of strengthening non-lecture academic nuances as well as implementing work programs, the Biology Education Study Program (PS) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a Public Lecture on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 with the theme ‘The Role of Biology in Human Life.’ This activity was held in the Biology Education PS laboratory from 09.00-12.00 WITA. The Public Lecture was opened by the Coordinator of Biology Education Study Program, Aminuddin Prahatama Putra and attended by active students of Biology Education Study Program. The resource person for this lecture was Fakhruddin Noor, an anesthesiologist and intensive therapy specialist who is a doctor at the Kotabaru Regional General Hospital (RSUD). This activity is divided into 2 sessions, namely material sessions and practical sessions, both of which are managed by resource persons.

Dr. Fakhruddin Noor or more familiarly called Dr. Ardhie, explained about basic and advanced life support, as well as stabilization and transportation of the patient’s body. According to him, when an accident or unexpected physical condition occurs in a person, the basic life support that can be provided includes (1) ensuring the safety of the environment, (2) activating the emergency system, (3) code blue in the hospital system, and (4) CPR(cardiopulmonary resuscitation) or also known as quality CPR (Heart Lung Resuscitation).

Regarding this activity, Aminuddin explained that the theme of this public lecture was raised based on the activities of Biology Education PS students who often carry out field practices so that basic knowledge and abilities are needed for each student related to occupational safety and health (K3). He further explained that in this century which demands collaborative competencies, the ability to think critically, have faith, and be independent, the material presented by the speakers is very relevant. In his presentation, the speaker explained how important the basic knowledge and skills that every student must have when things go wrong. “Some of these basic skills include first aid in accidents and proper CPR techniques. Conditions in the field are unpredictable, making students have to take action not only quickly but also precisely. On the other hand, students are the young generation, so it is important to have this basic knowledge and ability to help and empower themselves when they graduate and return to society,” he explained.
