On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Ki Hajar Dewantara Room was filled with cheers and great enthusiasm when the opening ceremony of Chemistry Week 2024 began. This activity was organized by the Chemistry Student Association of the Chemistry Education Study Program (PS) (Himki), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM). This event marks the beginning of three weeks of innovation and exciting competition. Chemistry Week 2024 presented three main competitions: Chemistry Essay Competition, Chemistry Poster Competition, and Rank 1, with participants coming from various universities and high schools.
The event began with remarks from the Coordinator of Chemistry Education Study Program, Rusmansyah, who expressed his pride and appreciation to the committee, participants, sponsors, and media partners. Not to forget, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni, Ali Rachman also gave his support through an inspiring speech.
The highlight of the opening was the beating of the gong, symbolizing the official start of Chemistry Week 2024. Ali Rachman; Rusmansyah; HImki advisor, Yogo Dwi Prasetyo; HIMK Chairperson; and Week of Chemistry 2024 Organizing Chairperson, Eliana NurSafitri, ceremonially hit the gong in front of invited guests who applauded.
The excitement continued with a stunning performance from the Chemistry Education Student dance group who performed Radap Rahayu Dance, a classical dance to welcome guests with honor. The opening ceremony was closed with a joint prayer, asking for the success and smoothness of the entire series of events.
This year’s Chemistry Week theme, “Chemistry On Fire: Unleash Our Roar,” reflects the blazing spirit of the participants and organizers. The Chairperson of HIMKI, Anisa, explained that this theme underlines the strong determination to echo the spirit of chemistry in the community. The Chief Executive of Pekan Kimia 2024, Eliana NurSafitri, also expressed her hope that this event would become a gathering place and a source of inspiration for chemistry lovers. “I hope this Chemistry Week becomes a forum for friendship and the competitions presented can inspire continuous innovation,” she said hopefully.
