Banjarmasin – Two students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) won the national short story writing competition. They are Risma Liyanti who won 1st place and Mikhael Kristian Warsito who won 3rd place. The competition titled Piala Indonesia 2024 is an annual event organized by the Executive Board of Literature Education Students (BEMP Sastra) of the State University of Jakarta (UNJ). The competition started from registration on July 1 until the announcement on July 31.

The short story that brought Risma to victory was titled “The Crazy Woman Who Dances on Ashes”. Meanwhile, Mikhael’s short story that won third place was titled “The Guest’s Smile”. According to Risma, her short story tells the story of a man who reunites with his former lover in his home village. Unfortunately, his former lover who was once adored as the most beautiful girl in the village is now a crazy woman who is also very well known in her village. The woman is crazy because of a dark experience that happened to her mother many years ago. Meanwhile, the man has regrets for leaving his girlfriend in her worst times.

Risma, who in the previous month also won first place in the Short Story Writing Competition of the Regional Student Art Week (Peksimida) and is currently preparing to compete in the National Student Art Week (Peksiminas), said she was happy with her achievement. “I did not expect that the short story could compete with the works of other great writers from all over Indonesia. In addition, I was also surprised when I saw the announcement, especially considering that the organizer of this activity is one of the leading universities in Indonesia. So from the beginning, I didn’t have any expectations. But as it turned out, thank God I was given the trust to be in this position,” he said emotionally.

Congratulations to the winners. May they continue to inspire and be an inspiration to others. (admin)
