Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) represented by the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Deasy Arisanty and Chairperson of the Merdeka Campus Learning Unit (MBKM), Raisa Fadilla participated in the Coordination Meeting (Rakor) between the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) for Malaysia and 52 universities that are members of the cooperation consortium between INTI International University Malaysia and the Indonesian State University Rectors Assembly (MRPTNI) including ULM.

The coordination meeting was held at Nilai Spring Resort, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia on August 23-24, 2024. In this meeting, it was conveyed that international service has been carried out by more than 50 universities for Indonesian children in Peninsular Malaysia since 2022. This service is in the form of a month-long Community Service Program (KKN) and increased to 4-6 months in 2023 in the Guidance Center (SB) for children of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Peninsular Malaysia.

Over the past two years, SB has successfully repatriated PMI children to continue their education at the junior and senior high school levels in Indonesia. For those still in Peninsular Malaysia, children who continue their studies to high school receive an education affirmation scholarship for 3 years. This coordination meeting focused on discussing the sustainability of the SB program and advanced study scholarships for PMI children in Peninsular Malaysia which will be implemented under the name of the program “Foster Fathers for Children of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Malayisa.” This activity was directed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, H. E. Hermono.

According to Deasy Arisanty, universities that are committed to continuing this program are asked to provide a letter of commitment. “For this, of course we will first coordinate with the ULM Rector,” she said. FKIP ULM itself has participated in this program since 2022 and has sent a number of students who are interested in joining this program. (admin)
