Banjarmasin – The Cooperation and Public Relations Management Unit (UPKH) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a Public Relations Training event for department managers and Student Associations (Hima) at FKIP ULM on Wednesday-Thursday, August 6-7, held a Public Relations Training for department managers and Student Associations (Hima) within FKIP ULM with the theme “Optimizing the Role and Function of Department Information Publication to the External Audience.” The activity was held in the FKIP ULM Meeting Room and was opened by the Dean, Sunarno Basuki. This training activity was attended by the Head of UPKH, Emma Rosana Febriyanti; Head of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Unit; Secretary of UPKH for Cooperation, Nahdia Fitri Rahmaniah; Secretary of UPKH for Public Relations (Humas), Dewi Alfianti; department secretaries, department operators, and Hima administrators in the publication and public relations departments, as well as other UPKH management teams.
In his speech on the first day, Sunarno Basuki expressed his hope that this training would create a positive paradigm regarding information management, especially in relation to the FKIP ULM institution itself. Meanwhile, in her speech on the second day, the Head of UPKH, Emma Rosana Febriyanti, conveyed UPKH’s commitment to building good public relations performance and supporting the strengthening of FKIP ULM’s positive image to the wider community, including through the organization of this event.
The training activity was divided into two sessions, namely a training session on writing department news led by the Public Relations Secretary, Dewi Alfianti, and a training session on synchronizing department and faculty news led by the Head of ICT, Nuruddin Wiranda. Participants, both those who are familiar and those who are still unfamiliar, were introduced to one of the main journalistic news products, which is a commonly used news writing model called straight news or straightforward news that focuses on presenting 5W1H information (What, Who, When, Where, Why, How). Participants were also introduced to the Pantau application, which serves as a shared platform at the department and faculty levels for storing and sharing information to be published in department and faculty media.
Regarding the implementation of this training, one of the participants, Umar, considered that this public relations training broadened the participants’ knowledge and deepened their understanding of the important role of public relations in building a positive image for the institution. The speakers’ presentations were supplemented with real examples and case studies, which made it easy for participants to understand and relate the material to their daily experiences. Each participant was also given the opportunity to write a news article according to the 5W + 1H formula. “I hope that training activities like this can continue to be held on an ongoing basis, with more in-depth discussions on topics in line with developments in the world of communication and information technology,” he said.
