Banjarmasin – The Department of Social Sciences Education (JPIPS) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a public lecture in Banjarmasin on Wednesday, April 8, with the theme “Social Studies Teachers as Social Entrepreneurs in Managing Social Change Through Quality Education in the Digital Age.” The event, held in the Hasan Bondan Hall starting at 9:00 a.m. WITA, was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Deasy Arisanti, and featured a guest speaker, Professor Suriagiri from Antasari State Islamic University (UIN). The event was attended by JPIPS lecturers and students from the classes of 2024 and 2025.

This initiative is driven by the rapid social changes in the digital age, which demand that the education sector undergo innovative and adaptive transformation. In this context, social studies teachers serve not only as instructors but also as agents of change capable of integrating social entrepreneurship values into the learning process. The goal is to cultivate students who are critical thinkers, creative, and capable of providing solutions to various social issues. Furthermore, this initiative is part of efforts to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly regarding quality education and partnerships. However, several challenges remain, such as disparities in educational quality, low digital literacy, and insufficient collaboration among stakeholders in creating contextual and sustainable learning experiences.

During the presentation, the speaker noted that social studies teachers play a strategic role in addressing the dynamics of social change in the digital age. “Social studies teachers play a strategic role as social entrepreneurs in delivering innovative and relevant learning experiences that address social change in the digital age. This aligns with the SDGs, particularly the goals of quality education and partnerships, which require teachers to be able to collaborate and contribute to sustainable development,” he said. (Admin)
