Banjarmasin – The Academic Support Unit (UPA) P2KPK (Center for Educational and Cultural Policy Research) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) in collaboration with the Economics Education Study Program (PS) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) ULM held the 1st ICECPA International Conference (International Conference of Educational and Cultural Policy Analysis) online on Monday, January 20, via the Zoom meeting application from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. WITA. The theme of this inaugural seminar was Innovation and Collaboration for Sustainable Wetland Management in Supporting Global Development.
The event was opened by the Head of P2KPK ULM, Baseran, and attended by a number of domestic and international keynote speakers, such as Muhammad Ridhwan Saleh and Narina Zubir from the International Islamic University Malaysia; Professor Suratno from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, ULM; FKIP ULM lecturers who are currently pursuing doctoral/Ph.D. degrees, Yusuf Al Arief and Benny Mahendra; Agung Waskito from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences ULM; and Herry Irwansyah from the Faculty of Engineering ULM. A number of other FKIP ULM lecturers also became guest speakers at this conference, including Raisa Fadilla, Muhammad Rahmattullah, Sayidah Mahtari, Rizky Febriyani Putri, Arum Murdianingsih, Ananda Setiawan, Muhammad Najamudin, Ratna Yulinda, Yasmin Khairunnisa, Nurul Hidayati Utami, Wisnu Subroto, Baseran, Muhammad Rezky Noor Handy, Syaripudin Bahar, Sharfina Putri Amima, Rizal Iskandar, Mahmudah Hasanah, Muzdalifah, Sauqina, and Meitria Syahadatina Noor.
One of the keynote speakers, Suratno, in his paper entitled Policy Analysis: Improving Efficiency in the Educational System of South Kalimantan Wetland Areas, explained that there are a number of inefficiencies in education policy in the wetland areas of South Kalimantan. These inefficiencies include (1) misallocation of resources, (2) geographical and environmental challenges, (3) outdated teaching practices, (4) overly centralized governance, and (5) challenges related to teaching staff. Regarding these issues, he provides a number of recommended solutions, including (1) expanding digital infrastructure: equipping schools with solar-powered digital tools and offline learning platforms to overcome connectivity challenges, (2) investing in teacher development: creating strong professional development programs for adaptive teaching in wetlands; (3) promoting decentralized governance: empowering local governments to make decisions tailored to the unique context of South Kalimantan’s wetlands, and (4) utilizing data analysis: using data for continuous monitoring and to inform policy adjustments specific to wetland areas.
According to Baseran, this conference is planned to be a biennial event for UPA P2KPK. “In addition to being a forum for collaboration between domestic and foreign researchers, this event also serves as a learning platform for students to present their research results. There are 189 presenters and 82 non-presenting participants. Thus, 271 people are attending this conference. We are striving to ensure that all submitted articles are published in international proceedings,” he said. (admin)
