First Session of SENPIKA VIII with Two Speakers from Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University and Semarang State University (Doc. Committee)

Banjarmasin – The Mathematics Education Department of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) once again held its annual non-lecture academic activity, the National Seminar for Mathematics Education Students (SENPIKA), this time for the seventh time. SENPIKA VIII was held on Thursday, July 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. WITA online via Zoom conference. The theme of this year’s SENPIKA is “Integration of AI and STEM in Mathematics Education Towards Adaptive and Innovative Learning”. The theme was chosen as a response to rapid technological developments, particularly in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the importance of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) approach in education.

SENPIKA VIII was attended by 313 participants consisting of students, lecturers, and researchers from various universities in Indonesia. The purpose of this event was to facilitate the exchange of ideas, research results, and innovations in the field of mathematics education. More than just a scientific forum, SENPIKA also served as a platform for students to develop themselves by presenting papers and expanding their academic networks. The event was officially opened by the Head of the Mathematics Education Department of FKIP ULM, Noor Fajriah. In her opening remarks, Noor Fajriah emphasized the importance of technological literacy for prospective educators so that they are able to deliver contextual and adaptive learning. The opening ceremony also included a recitation of the Quran, the singing of the national anthem, and an opening prayer.

Participants included those from the Indonesia University of Education, Khairun University, PGRI University Madiun, Palangkaraya University, Semarang State University, Sjech M. Djamil Dajmbek Bukittinggi State Islamic University, SMKN 1 Temanggung, STKIP Kusuma Negara, Malang State University, and others.

The main series of events at SENPIKA VIII included presentations from two national speakers, namely Professor Sri Adi Widodo from Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University and Doctor Adi Nur Cahyono from Semarang State University. Sri Adi Widodo presented material on the application of artificial intelligence in innovative mathematics learning design, while Adi Nur Cahyono discussed the integration of the STEM approach to encourage students’ critical and creative thinking skills in mathematics learning. The seminar was moderated by Rahmita Noorbaiti and included a discussion session involving participants from various regions. The participants were very enthusiastic, as evidenced by the various questions they asked, especially regarding the practical implementation of AI and STEM in Indonesian classrooms.

In addition to presentations from guest speakers, SENPIKA VIII also included an award ceremony for outstanding students in the Mathematics Education Department of FKIP ULM. The awards were presented by the Chair of the Committee, Elli Kusumawati.

After the first session, the event continued with parallel seminar sessions, where dozens of speakers from various institutions presented their research results. The fields of study discussed included STEM in mathematics education, AI in education, learning innovation, ethnomathematics, mathematical thinking processes, and assessment in mathematics education. The presenters also had the opportunity to publish their articles in accredited scientific journals such as EDU-MAT, JURMADIKTA, UNION, and SENPIKA Proceedings.

The success of SENPIKA VIII cannot be separated from the hard work of the organizing committee, which consists of a collaboration between lecturers and students of the Mathematics Education Department, FKIP ULM. This collaboration is a manifestation of synergy between the academic community in building a dynamic and productive academic atmosphere. The role of students was not only as participants and presenters, but also as active organizers in designing the technical aspects of the event, managing participant communication, and operating technical equipment during the seminar. With orderly implementation and active participation from all participants, SENPIKA VIII successfully achieved its goal as an inclusive, inspiring, and adaptive scientific forum in line with the times. It is hoped that this activity will not only serve as an academic discussion forum but also as a catalyst for new innovations in mathematics education in Indonesia.
