Banjarmasin – A number of students and educational staff (tendik) from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) achieved success at the 2025 South Kalimantan Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) through the sport of pickleball, representing the Banjarmasin contingent and other cities. This relatively new sport has been pursued by the FKIP ULM academic community in recent years, including lecturers, students, and educational staff. It is no surprise that they achieved a resounding victory in this sport at the Porprov.

Notably, among the students, pickleball athletes who won medals from the Physical Education Department included Muhammad Ferry Kurniawan (silver medal in men’s doubles), Nor Izzati and Syifa Aulia Kaltsum (gold medal in women’s team), Yaiman Budi Utomo and Haris Nur Fadillah (gold medal in men’s team); and from the Elementary School Teacher Education Department (PGSD), Novanda (2 silver medals). Meanwhile, from the teaching staff, those who participated in this competition were Amran and Irhamnda, as well as Aprianto as the coach.

According to the coach, who is also a lecturer at FKIP ULM, Aprianto, the pickleball athletes’ training pattern consists of physical training using cones to train leg strength, steps, and jumps, as well as other physical training such as running around the ULM campus. “Physical training is conducted three times a week, followed by ball-hitting drills with a high number of hits and various patterns, and then independent training involving practice matches with training partners or sparring sessions with athletes from other districts,” he explained.

He himself feels proud to have successfully guided the athletes to victory, “I am very happy and proud of the Banjarmasin City pickleball athletes. Their achievements at the Provincial Sports Week exceeded expectations when compared to the Provincial Championships, where they only won two medals, one silver and one bronze, while at the Provincial Sports Week they won six medals, one gold, one silver, and four bronze. This success is the result of the collective efforts of coaches, athletes, officials, trainers, and all stakeholders in Banjarmasin City’s pickelball community, as well as ULM, which provided facilities, space, and collaborative support,” he explained enthusiastically.
