The 7th Sendikom, Department of Computer Education, FKIP ULM Discusses AI in Learning

Signing Session of the Cooperation Agreement between FKIP ULM and Ganesha University of Education

The Computer Education Department (Pilkom) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held the 7th SENDIKOM (National Seminar on Computer Education) on Wednesday, August 27. The event, themed “AI: An Opportunity or a Threat? Using AI Wisely in Education,” was held starting at 8:00 AM WITA at the General Building Student Activity Center 4, Lambung Mangkurat University. The SENDIKOM series of activities included a seminar with speakers Dessy Seri Wahyuni, Coordinator of the Informatics Education Study Program at Ganesha University of Education, and Andi Ichsan Mahardika, lecturer at the FKIP ULM Pilkom Department; parallel sessions for presenters; and the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the FKIP ULM Computer Education S-1 and the Ganesha University of Education Information Technology Education S-1. SENDIKOM was opened by the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of FKIP ULM, Deasy Arisanty, and was attended by the Head of the Pilkom Department of FKIP ULM, Harja Santana Purba, as well as lecturers and students of the Pilkom department.

In her speech, Deasy appreciated the choice of the SENDIKOM theme because today the use of AI is so closely associated with students that it can be a double-edged sword. “Students must be able to use AI wisely, so as not to reduce their academic abilities,” she said. In addition, regarding the signing of the cooperation agreement, she also hoped that good synergy could be established between FKIP ULM and Ganesha University of Education.

In his presentation, one of the speakers, Andi, said that in today’s digital native era, students are characterized as independent, fun-oriented, expressive, instant gratification seekers, explorative, information sharers, collaborative, and interactive. With these characteristics, it is necessary to design learning that can accommodate the characteristics of students who are oriented towards reducing negative things and fostering positive things. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to help educators design appropriate learning for them.

After the seminar session, the parallel session of presenters was then held from 1:30 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. WITA in four separate rooms, namely the Pilkom department laboratory, the Pilkom department final project laboratory, the Fuad Hasan room, and the Ahmad Dahlan room, with a total of 47 presenters.

According to the chair of the organizing committee, Delsika Pramata Sari, the theme of this year’s SENDIKOM is highly relevant to current technological developments, where AI has become an integral part of various aspects of life, including education. “This national seminar aims to be a forum for educators, researchers, and education practitioners to share knowledge and experiences on how to utilize AI wisely in learning. We will discuss the opportunities and challenges faced in integrating AI into the education system, as well as strategies to maximize the benefits of AI while minimizing risks. I believe that this seminar will be a valuable opportunity for all of us to expand our knowledge and network, as well as strengthen our commitment to improving the quality of education in Indonesia,” she said enthusiastically.
