Banjarmasin – The Indonesian Language and Literature Education Department (JPBSI) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), in collaboration with the ULM Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education and the ULM Doctoral Program in Indonesian Language Education, once again held an annual non-lecture academic event, the National Seminar on Language and Literature Education. This event will be held on Friday, October 17, with the theme of literature, namely “Oral Literature in the Digital Age and Its Implications for Indonesian Language and Literature Learning.” This national seminar will be held in a hybrid format through a virtual Zoom conference and in person at the ULM Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. WITA.

This seminar featured a number of speakers, including Alfian S. Siagian, Oral Tradition Researcher at the University of Indonesia; Izzah Zen Syukri, lecturer at the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Sriwijaya University; Haswinda Harpriyanti, Lecturer at PGRI University Banjarmasin, and Sainul Hermawan, lecturer at JPBSI FKIP ULM who is also the chair of the organizing committee. Each speaker will present various discussions on oral traditions.

According to Sainul Hermawan, literacy in this era has become an interesting topic of discussion because it has become inherent in today’s digital technology and communication. “We have entered an era of digital literacy that is different from the previous primary and secondary literacy models. In this era, personal digital literacy is a counterbalance to the dominance of imitative reasoning in learning,” he said. In addition to digital literacy, which is an interesting topic discussed by Sainul Hermawan, other speakers at this seminar will also discuss literacy, including Izzah, who will talk about Maco Holo (the reading of manaqib at the haul of scholars) in the Digital Age; Alfian, who will talk about literacy and collective memory; and Haswinda, who will talk about Mamanda Art in the Digital Age.

At this national seminar, the committee also opened a collection of papers by participants to be published as academic outputs in national journals and book chapters. Presenters are welcome to write on topics related to the sub-themes (1) digitization and preservation of oral literature; (2) contemporary digital oral literature; (3) digital oral literature in improving language skills; and other relevant sub-themes.
