Yogyakarta – Innovations by students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) have once again captured national attention. Three students from the Natural Sciences Education Department (JPIPA) won a gold medal and the favorite poster award at the prestigious Cipta Nusantara Fest 2025 event held at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) on November 15. This annual event, organized by Eduhub Incubator, is known as one of the most competitive essay and business proposal competitions in Indonesia. In 2025, the competition carried the theme “Candradimuka Innovation: Brilliant Ideas, Brilliant Innovations for the Archipelago.” This theme symbolizes a place for the regeneration of young innovators who are ready to produce ideas that will have a high impact on the nation’s development.
A total of 340 participants from various leading universities competed in several categories. The competition was particularly fierce in the Agriculture, Food, and Animal Husbandry categories, where innovations in agritech and foodtech competed with each other. Amidst the fierce competition, the JPIPA FKIP ULM student team, consisting of Dodi Rizal Pradana, Alya Nurul Latifah, and Annisa Maulidia Shalehah, impressed the judges with their business proposal entitled “MushGow: Modern Oyster Mushroom Cultivation in Growkits.”
Mushgow Growkit: Growing Mushrooms Is as Easy as Watering Plants
MushGow’s innovation introduces a new approach to oyster mushroom cultivation, transforming what has traditionally been a complex process into an easy, practical, and enjoyable activity. With a single growkit package, users can cultivate white oyster mushrooms simply by opening the ventilation holes, maintaining humidity, and waiting for the mushrooms to grow until harvest time. This growkit is designed to be aesthetically pleasing, environmentally friendly, and educational, making it suitable as a biology learning tool for students and university students, an urban farming educational resource for city dwellers, and even an innovative, functional gift basket.
Team leader Dodi Rizal Pradana revealed that this idea stemmed from his direct experience while participating in a community service program for lecturers at an oyster mushroom cultivation center. “We saw firsthand the challenges faced by oyster mushroom farmers as well as the huge market potential if this cultivation method were to be modernized,” he explained. During the development process, the team was guided by Field Supervisor (DPL) Wida Salupi, who encouraged students to conduct design research, growth tests, market analysis, and branding strategies.
Not stopping at competition, MushGow has been prepared as a product with long-term economic value. The team is ambitious to develop MushGow into a regional souvenir and a new icon of environmental education. “We want MushGow to be a product that can introduce the region and build a culture of home gardening,” added Alya.
The Head of JPIPA FKIP ULM, Syubhan Annur, expressed his high appreciation for the students’ achievements. “This achievement is not only a victory for the team, but also proof that our students are able to demonstrate their quality at the national level through creative and solution-oriented work. This further strengthens ULM’s position as a leading university,” he said. This achievement serves as a new catalyst for the department and faculty to continue fostering a student innovation ecosystem, particularly one based on science, technology, and entrepreneurship.
