Banjarmasin – The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a Halal bi Halal gathering on Wednesday, April 1, to celebrate the inauguration of four new full professors—Syahmani, Chairil Faif Pasani, Ali Rachman, and Syaharuddin—which took place the previous day. Along with this celebration, a book launch was also held for a book by one of the FKIP ULM full professors, Sutarto Hadi, titled “Mathematical Reasoning: Understanding the Learning Brain.” The event took place at the Hasan Bondan Hall and Tumpang Lima Field starting at 9:00 a.m. WITA.
The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at ULM, Sunarno Basuki, and was attended by the associate deans of FKIP ULM, faculty members, and educational support staff within FKIP ULM, as well as invited guests. In his opening remarks, Sunarno welcomed the event both as an expression of gratitude to God Almighty and as a gathering to strengthen camaraderie among FKIP ULM faculty and staff. The book discussion was moderated by Sabhan, a lecturer in the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature (JPBSI), and featured discussions led by Chairil Faif Pasani and Elli Kusumawati, professors and lecturers in the Department of Mathematics Education.
In his presentation, Sutarto explained that the book under discussion was written while he was in the Netherlands. Driven by his interest in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is now widespread in society, he felt there was a need for knowledge about systematic thinking so that the human brain would not be completely overtaken by AI, but could instead keep pace with it. According to him, mathematics is more about patterns of thinking—patterns closely tied to how humans manage their own intelligence. Meanwhile, Faif highlighted how the human brain, in his view, continues to evolve over time, and humans need to cultivate their reasoning skills to think systematically.
After the book discussion event concluded, the leadership of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at ULM, along with the professors, officially opened the Halal Bi Halal gathering at Tumpang Lima Field. Following that, the academic community of FKIP ULM—including faculty members and support staff—mingled and exchanged greetings. (Admin)
