Banjarmasin – Students from the Department of Social Sciences Education (JPIPS) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University (FKIP ULM), conducted a field practicum for their Tourism course in the form of a Banjarmasin River Cruise (SuSuBan) Volume 7 on Saturday (May 9, 2026). This activity is part of the annual field practice for fourth-semester students in the Tourism course.
The SuSuBan Volume 7 event was opened by Mutiani, Head of the Social Studies Education Department, and attended by students from the classes of 2023 and 2025. In addition, the event was also attended by faculty members and staff from the Social Studies Education Department at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, ULM.
This practicum is organized as a field learning opportunity for students to study event management while exploring the tourism potential of Banjarmasin. Through this activity, students not only gain hands-on learning experience in the field but also have the opportunity to observe the various tourism opportunities emerging along the river.

The series of activities took place during an educational river cruise aboard a kelotok, following a route that included the City Government Port, the Kayuh Baimbai Museum, Kampung Ketupat, the Basirih Pilgrimage Site, and back to the City Government Port. This route was chosen to provide a learning experience about various tourist destinations that are part of the identity and appeal of the city of Banjarmasin.
Through this river exploration activity, students are invited to gain a deeper understanding of the region’s river-based tourism potential. In addition to serving as a traditional mode of transportation, the river also holds historical, cultural, and economic significance that plays a vital role in the lives of the Banjar community.

The SuSuBan Volume 7 program is one example of a learning initiative that integrates theory and practice. By getting hands-on experience in the field, students are expected to gain an understanding of tourism management and see firsthand the potential of tourist destinations that can be developed as regional assets.
Through this practicum, students are expected to broaden their knowledge of regional tourism, deepen their understanding of event management, and foster an appreciation for the local tourism potential of Banjarmasin.
