Banjarmasin – The Department of English Education (JP) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), held another regular academic event on Tuesday, May 12: a public lecture focusing on the role and challenges of teachers in the digital age. The public lecture, titled “Teachers Amid Transformation: Building the Future of Education from a School Management Perspective,” was held at the ULM Student Activity Center (SAC) starting at 9:00 a.m. WITA. The event was opened by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Deasy Arisanty, and attended by the Head of the English Language Education Program, Moh. Yamin, as well as lecturers and fourth-semester students of the English Language Education Program.
The guest lecturer was Rijali Riyadi, Principal of the Global Islamic Boarding School (GIBS). In his presentation, Rijali explained the transformation of today’s educational paradigm, shifting from VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) to TUNA (Turbulence, Uncertainty, Novelty, Ambiguity) and currently moving toward BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, Incomprehensive). According to him, the current rigid education system has become highly fragile due to disruptions from artificial intelligence, the growing sense of uncertainty among both students and teachers, the emergence of small changes with massive impacts, and the fact that educational data cannot explain the underlying causes.
In response to these challenges, he proposed three effective solutions: (1) a mindset of continuous professional development for teachers and prospective teachers, (2) interdisciplinary collaboration, and (3) enhancing professional branding. (Admin)
