Banjarmasin – An innovation in learning media was launched through a collaboration between lecturers from the Department of Educational Technology (Tekpen) and the Department of Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM). This collaboration focuses on research to develop Banjar-language digital comics intended as learning media to improve cultural literacy at the elementary school level. The research team is led by Abdul Rahman from the Department of Tekpen with member Muhammad Ziyan Takhqiqi Arsyad from the Department of PGSD.
This research, entitled “Development of Banjar Language Digital Comics as a Medium for Cultural Literacy Learning in Elementary Schools,” is oriented toward the output of a learning medium in the form of digital comics that use the Banjar language. The development process involved various experts and students. This research was funded through the 2025 fiscal year’s early-career faculty research scheme and was fully supported by the Directorate of Research and Community Service, Directorate General of Research and Development, under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.
This project was realized through an intensive collaborative process. Researchers worked with experts in the fields of language, culture, and educational technology to ensure that the comic content was accurate and effective. The visual creative process was entrusted to three students from the Educational Technology department, namely Okti Cahya Sari, Muthia Amalia, and Febrita, as illustrators. After the digital comic product was developed, the research team continued with a limited trial phase in designated schools to measure its effectiveness directly on fifth-grade elementary school students. The limited trial for the implementation of this digital comic was conducted from September 3 to September 10. The implementation and trial of this Banjar-language digital comic was carried out in three elementary schools in the city of Banjarmasin, namely SDN Belitung Selatan 1, SDN Pelambuan 4, and SDN Sungai Miai 11.
Research Chair Abdul Rahman explained that the purpose of developing this comic is very fundamental. “This digital comic in the Banjar language was developed not only to strengthen the Banjar language, but also to implicitly and explicitly introduce the values, traditions, and cultural perspectives of Banjar. Through this medium, students are expected to develop an understanding of diversity and positive interaction skills. The hope is that this will not only produce an effective learning medium for the preservation of the Banjar language, but also contribute significantly to strengthening the cultural literacy of elementary school students,” he said.
