Banjarmasin – On Tuesday, April 7, the leadership of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) once again welcomed international students from the Southeast Asia (SEA) Teacher exchange program, an ongoing initiative of SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization), a regional intergovernmental organization of Southeast Asian nations. In early 2026, FKIP ULM welcomed four students from Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) in the Philippines; in 2025, FKIP ULM had also sent its own students there. The four students are Cydell Rose Padernal Poral, a student from the Department of Secondary Science Teacher Education; Jessie John V. Edianel from the Department of Vocational Education in Electrical Technology; Jessabelle M. Bendita from the Department of Home Economics Teacher Education; and Conrado E. Torreteo Jr. from the Department of Industrial Arts Teacher Education.
These four students were officially welcomed at a ceremonial reception held in the Meeting Room of the General Utility Building at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of ULM at 12:00 p.m. WITA. They were welcomed by the Dean of FKIP ULM, Sunarno Basuki; the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Deasy Arisanty; the Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs, Dharmono; the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni, Ali Rachman; the Head of the General Affairs Division, Isnawati; Head of the Integrated Learning Activities Mobilization (MKBT) Unit, Raisa Fadilla and her team; Head of the Cooperation and Public Relations Management Unit (UPKH), Emma Rosana Febriyanti; Head of the Quality Assurance Unit (UPM), Ananda Setiawan; as well as the organizing committee and student chaperones.

In his remarks, Sunarno Basuki expressed his delight that the program could continue and hoped that the students would be able to adapt and fully enjoy their daily lives while in Banjarmasin. The students responded enthusiastically. One student, Jessie, for example, shared that since setting foot in the city of Banjarmasin, she and her mentor have been exploring and discovering many new things. She also mentioned that among the interesting things, there are some words that sound the same but have different meanings, which has even led to misunderstandings.
During this meeting, Deasy Arisanty presented a brief profile of the ULM Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), and Raisa outlined the series of activities the students will participate in during their stay here. “The students will be placed in partner schools as before, namely at SMAN Banua and SMA GIBS (Global Islamic Boarding School). ISAT-U students will also participate in a Cultural Exchange program to share cultural information. They will be taken to locations that embody the local cultural values of the Banjar community. Together with FKIP ULM students, they will also carry out international community service on Curiak Island,” she said. (Admin)
