Banjarmasin – Students from the Class of 2025 in the Department of Pancasila and Civic Education (JPPKn) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), successfully organized the 2026 Kalimantan-wide Quiz Competition (LCC) for high schools (SMA), vocational high schools (SMK), and Islamic high schools (MA) under the theme “Creating a Generation of Students Who Are Intelligent and Have a National Perspective.” The event, held on Saturday, June 13, in the Hasan Bondan Hall at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) ULM, served as a platform for developing knowledge, character, and a sense of national identity among students throughout Kalimantan.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at ULM, who was represented on this occasion by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Ali Rachman. In his remarks, he expressed appreciation for the students’ creativity and innovation in organizing an academic event that has a broad impact on the world of education. “This event is a concrete example of how students are able to apply the knowledge they’ve gained in the classroom to create a program that benefits the community. A quiz competition is not just a contest, but also a means to instill national values, improve civic literacy, and shape a young generation that thinks critically and possesses strong character,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding this event, the Chair of the JPPKn at the FKIP ULM, Mariatul Kiptiah, emphasized that this event represents one of the JPPKn’s commitments to strengthening character education and national awareness among the younger generation. “We greatly appreciate the hard work of the Class of 2025 students who have designed and carried out this event so well. Through competitions like this, we hope to foster a younger generation that is not only academically excellent but also possesses a sense of national identity, a spirit of unity, and a commitment to upholding the values of Pancasila in their daily lives,” she said.

This competition was a learning project for the “Fundamentals and Concepts of Civic Education” course taught by Dian Agus Ruchliyadi and Alex, with students serving as the organizing committee. A total of 21 high schools (SMA), vocational high schools (SMK), and Islamic high schools (MA) from various regions in Kalimantan participated in the competition, which was both competitive and educational.

As the course instructor and activity advisor, Dian Agus Ruchliyadi explained that this competition is an implementation of project-based learning (PBL), which emphasizes real-world experiences for students. “Students don’t just learn theory in the classroom; they also learn to plan programs, build collaboration, manage activities, solve problems, and take responsibility for the results. This is the true essence of higher education: creating meaningful learning experiences while contributing to society,” he explained.

After going through a rigorous preliminary round, the top nine schools advanced to the semifinals. The competition remained intense all the way to the finals, which brought together the best teams from various regions across Kalimantan. Based on the judges’ evaluation, the results were as follows: 1st place: SMAN 2 Banjarbaru; 2nd place: SMAN 2 Banjarmasin; and 3rd place: MAN 2 Banjarmasin.

Committee Chair Yoris Juhdi Malkan expressed his gratitude for the successful execution of the event and the high level of enthusiasm shown by the participants in the competition. “We would like to thank all participating schools, accompanying teachers, the leadership of the ULM Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, faculty members, the organizing committee, sponsors, and everyone who supported this event. The high level of school participation shows that a passion for learning and a sense of national identity remain important priorities for the younger generation. We hope this event can continue to be held and become an annual tradition that strengthens educational networks in Kalimantan,” he said.

Through this event, the Department of Civic Education at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University, once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the strengthening of character education, democracy, and national awareness. The 2026 Kalimantan-wide Quiz Competition is expected to serve as a platform for nurturing a young generation that is intelligent, competitive, and concerned about the life of the nation and state.
